Airway Kit

An important piece of equipment is the airway management storage. The current solution is separated pouches that is disorganized. During cardiac arrest simulations, I noticed that time could be wasted trying to find the correct equipment as the equipment is scattered in different pouches. A lot of insights were gained from user testing sessions which helped inform the design. It was crucial to use materials similar to what the final design might be made from. This helped Paramedics and Paramedicine students visualise how they may use the design in the field.

I re-designed the airway storage to make it easier to locate the airway management equipment. It is colour coded blue (adult) and there would also be a pink version (pediatric). I introduced a cognitive artifact to support paramedics during cognitively demanding patient resuscitation. As paramedics swap tasks, it also helps communicate what equipment needs to be prepared. From paramedic feedback, they loved how both the basic and advanced airway devices were located in the same place which made it easier to access the basic equipment in case the placement of the advanced equipment was unsuccessful. They also loved the fact that the equipment preparation area stores all the accessories needed for airway management. User feedback and role-play was vital in developing the airway kit.
